Professional Tax in Telangana — Slabs & How to Calculate

Telangana charges no professional tax below ₹15,000/month, then ₹150/month up to ₹20,000, then a flat ₹200/month above that — ₹2,400 a year at the top.

Exemption threshold₹15,000/month gross salary
₹15,001–₹20,000₹150/month
Above ₹20,000₹200/month (₹2,400/year)

Telangana's slab structure — and the exact figures — trace back to before the state split from Andhra Pradesh in 2014; both states have kept largely the same professional tax table since, administered separately by each state's commercial taxes department.

Like West Bengal, Telangana's top rate of ₹200/month for all twelve months already totals ₹2,400 a year, under the ₹2,500 constitutional cap, with no special adjustment month.

Employers deduct this monthly; self-employed professionals and traders above the threshold register with Telangana's Commercial Taxes Department and pay directly.

Worked example

A standard month works out to ₹200.00. A ₹25,000-a-month salary is in the top band — ₹200/month, ₹2,400 for the year. A ₹17,000/month salary would owe ₹150/month instead.

Frequently asked questions

Why are Telangana's and Andhra Pradesh's slabs identical?

Both states inherited the same professional tax structure when Telangana was carved out of Andhra Pradesh in 2014, and each has kept broadly the same table since — though they're now administered as fully separate state taxes.

Does the threshold apply per employer if I have more than one job?

Professional tax generally applies to your total income for the purpose of the assessment, not per employer — confirm with Telangana's Commercial Taxes Department if you have multiple income sources.

Is there an annual cap here too?

Yes — ₹2,400/year at the top slab, which is under the ₹2,500 constitutional maximum, so Telangana doesn't need an adjustment month the way some other states do.
