Quotation vs. invoice vs. proforma invoice
A quotation is an offer, not a demand for payment — it states a price and holds it until the "Valid until" date, but creates no obligation to pay. A proforma invoice looks similar but is usually issued after an order is confirmed, as a preview of the final bill (for advance payment or import documentation, for example). Once the customer accepts and the work is delivered, generate an invoice for the actual billing.

How long should a quotation stay valid?
There's no legal rule — it's a business decision. A common practice is 15 to 30 days, shorter if your prices depend on volatile input costs. Set whatever "Valid until" date makes sense for what you're quoting.
Can I turn a quotation into an invoice later?
Yes — once the customer accepts, use the same line items in the Invoice Generator to bill the confirmed work. This tool doesn't auto-convert one into the other, but it's the same builder underneath.
Should a quotation include GST?
If you're GST-registered, showing the expected GST split gives the customer an accurate total upfront — use the GST fields above the same way you would on an invoice. It's still just an estimate until you actually bill it.
