For Freelancers
Business tools for freelancers in India
Quote a job, invoice a client, and keep track of the tax that comes off your payments — without spreadsheets or an accountant on retainer.
Most freelance work in India follows the same paper trail: a quotation before you start, an invoice once the work is delivered, and — if the client is a business paying for professional or technical services — TDS deducted from what they pay you, commonly under Section 194J. Whether you also charge GST depends on whether you're GST-registered, which itself depends on your turnover and the nature of your services; it isn't automatic just because you're a freelancer.
None of that requires an account here — every tool below runs entirely in your browser and works before you've registered anything.

A freelancer's typical workflow
- Send a quotation before you start, so the client has agreed on the scope and price in writing. The Quotation Generator covers this — set a validity date so an old quote doesn't get accepted at a stale price.
- Convert it to an invoice once the work is delivered, using the Invoice Generator. If you're GST-registered, switch it to a GST invoice instead of a plain one.
- Check what TDS the client should deduct — professional and technical fees are commonly covered under Section 194J. Use the TDS Calculator to see the section-wise rate, and confirm it against what actually lands in your bank account.
- Work out GST on your fee if you're GST-registered, using the GST Calculator — useful for quoting a GST-inclusive number without doing the math by hand.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to register a company to invoice as a freelancer?
No — most freelancers in India bill simply as an individual (using their own PAN), without registering a separate business entity. A company or LLP is a choice some freelancers make later for other reasons, not a requirement to raise a valid invoice.
Will my client deduct TDS from my invoice?
Often yes, if you're paid by a business for professional or technical services — this is commonly covered under Section 194J. The exact rate, and whether it applies at all, depends on the section and your PAN status. Check the TDS Calculator below for the section-wise rate before you're surprised by a smaller bank credit than you invoiced.
Do I need GST as a freelancer?
It depends on your annual turnover and the nature of your services, not on being a freelancer specifically — GST registration has its own threshold rules that can also vary by state. Check the current threshold on the GST portal or with a tax advisor before deciding; this page and the GST Calculator don't register you for anything.
Can I send a quotation and then a different invoice for the same job?
Yes — a quotation is just the agreed estimate before work starts; the invoice is the final bill once it's delivered, and the two don't have to match exactly (extra line items, a revised quantity, or a discount are all normal). Both tools are independent, so you can create one without the other.
