For Traders
Business tools for traders in India
Quote a buyer, order stock from a supplier, and bill it all out — with the right HSN code and GST split at every step.
Trading sits on both sides of a transaction — buying from suppliers and selling to customers — so the same product often needs a purchase order going out and a GST invoice going out to a different party, sometimes in the same week. Dealing across multiple product lines also means the HSN code and GST rate can change from one deal to the next — it's tied to the product's classification, not your business type.
Each tool below is independent and runs in your browser — use whichever one matches the deal in front of you.

A trader's typical workflow
- Quote the buyer before you commit to a deal, using the Quotation Generator, especially useful when a price is negotiated per order rather than fixed.
- Raise a purchase order to your supplier once the buyer's order is confirmed, using the Purchase Order Generator — a written record of what you ordered, at what price, and by when.
- Check the HSN code for each product line with the HSN/SAC Finder before invoicing — buying and reselling several product categories means this is worth confirming per deal, not assuming from memory.
- Bill the buyer with a GST Invoice, with CGST/SGST or IGST split automatically depending on whether the sale is within your state or across state lines.
Frequently asked questions
Do I charge CGST + SGST or IGST as a trader?
It depends on the buyer's location, not your own registration state — CGST + SGST applies when the buyer is in the same state as the supply, IGST when they're in a different state. The GST Invoice Generator handles the split once you set the supply type.
Can I use the same HSN code for everything I trade?
No — HSN classification follows the specific product, not your business as a trader. Two products you deal in can carry different HSN codes and GST rates even if they seem similar. Check each one with the HSN/SAC Finder rather than reusing a code from a different product line.
Do I need a formal purchase order for every supplier, even informal ones?
It's not always legally mandatory, but it's good practice — a purchase order gives you a written record of price, quantity, and delivery terms if there's ever a dispute with a supplier, even one you deal with regularly.
What if my supplier isn't GST-registered?
You can still record the purchase as one from an unregistered supplier. Whether reverse charge or other special GST treatment applies in your case depends on rules that are specific and periodically updated — confirm with a tax advisor or the GST portal rather than assuming standard treatment.
